We are nearly there, 5 days till Christmas people! You might already be feeling the burn out happening from the MERRY MONTH so far. And if your Christmas is anything like mine it just gets busier for now till New Year. If yours resembles big crazy families, late nights, more rich food and splitting your time between a few different places then I am going to offer A FEW TIPS to help you survive till January.
Take Time When You Can
I know it can be hard between visiting friends and family, dashing to the shops for those last minutes things and cooking for a large group, but try and prioritise a little time for YOU. Even if it’s half an hour of quiet time in the morning before everyone wakes up to have a cup of tea and read a bit of your book or running a bath in the evening. Try and and schedule in this time. It’s been a busy year and you deserve a little time to switch off, this will actually make you more enjoyable and happier company when you are spending time with your loved ones.
2. Switch Off
Spend a few hours a day in the holidays fully ‘switched off’, put your phone either on aeroplane mode or simply put it in a drawer. Take this time to be IN THE MOMENT with the people you care about, enjoying some time in front of the TV without trying to do two things at once or whilst playing those board games. Whatever it is your are doing, that time without your phone ensures you are give it 100% attention. It actually gives your mind a little break from all the over stimulation and mindless scrolling. I promise you, it will help you feel more rested and relaxed on your days off.
3. If It’s Too Much, Say No
We can all be guilty of being ‘YES’ men and women, especially at this time of year, trying to fit in everything and everyone but this isn’t going to be good and you will end up exhausted and resentful. Listen to your body and say NO if you have to, you cannot please everyone and remember it’s your Christmas too.
4. Practise Patience
Getting all your nearest and dearest under one roof can be difficult for some, there can be clashes in personality and strong opinions, which can spark fights and bad feelings. Try and practise patience here, remember this is just for the holidays and TAKE A DEEP BREATH. Try and practise having an open mind and going with the flow, easier said then done i’m sure, but worth giving a go.
Last But Not Least…
Enjoy yourself, try and relax and soak up this time. Before you know it it will be January again and back to the drawing board.
Merry Christmas To You All xxxx
